Temporary, Substitutes & Athletic Coaches

Temporary Teachers are hired on an as-needed basis, paid based on the hourly rate assigned to the position, and are not eligible to receive benefits. Schools recommend temporary teachers in grades K-12 based on the needs and available funding for the school.

Daily Substitute Teachers BCPS partners with Kelly Education to manage the district’s daily requests for substitute teachers. Daily substitute fill-in for absent teachers or paraprofessionals (classroom/teacher assistants). Interested candidates must apply via Kelly Education.

Long-Term / Interim Substitutes are categorized as the “teacher of record” and fill-in for an extended period of time. The long-term / interim substitute handles all duties the teacher would normally be assigned (i.e. lesson planning, delivery of instruction, attending department/grade meetings, PLCs, faculty meetings, IEP meetings, etc.).  The principal will meet with the long-term / interim substitute and review the specific responsibilities.

Athletic Coaches are hired by middle and high schools to oversee an activity. Athletic Coaches must have a valid Florida Educator’s Certificate or apply for a Florida Department of Education Athletic Coach certificate.
