POSITION GOAL
To perform skilled work in the preparation and service of nutritionally adequate, reimbursable meals that covers all phases of the Food & Nutrition Services operations. Duties will include assisting the manager in the total operation of the l Food & Nutrition Services Department. The Food & Nutrition Services Assistant Manager will assume management and operational responsibilities in the absence of the Food & Nutrition Service Manager and Area Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Food & Nutrition Services Assistant Manager (Assistant III) shall carry out the essential performance responsibilities listed below:
- Supervise staff as assigned in the performance of job duties.
- Delegate duties and tasks to assigned staff when directed by the Food & Nutrition Services Managers.
- Participate in on-going state-approved training and educational initiatives relating to Food & Nutrition Services including Foundations of School Food Service, Nutrition, Quantity Cooking, and Sanitation class.
- Act as a liaison between the school-based administrators, Food & Nutrition Services personnel, and Food and Nutrition Services District staff for all program operations.
- Ensure that the students at Broward County Public Schools receive nutritious meals and quality service in compliance with policies set forth by the United States Department of Agriculture, (USDA), the Broward County School Board and the Food & Nutrition Services Department.
- Assist in supervising food production and service to ensure the nutritionally adequate reimbursable meals served, meet high standards for flavor and appearance, and comply with all federal and state requirements.
- Ensure food production operations comply with the standards of the federal and state School Food Service Program relating to food preparation, serving portion size, and sanitation practices.
- Adhere to Meal Count System procedures.
- Assist the manager in planning and monitoring food production, ensuring that meal service is safe, and that good quality food is served in proper quantity at the appropriate time.
- Follow standards and ensure compliance with purchasing procedures.
- Provide input regarding menu planning items for school meals.
- Maintain cost control through careful planning, inventory ordering, preparation, and service.
- Pre-plan meals and document food and supplies utilized.
- Verify left-overs and plan for effective utilization.
- Verify inventories of commodities, purchased food, and non-food items.
- Check- in all deliveries, verify quantities, and audit for quality and price.
- Direct proper storage of both food and non-food items, following all safety procedures.
- Conduct Capital Inventory verification, as directed.
- Maintain complete, adequate, and accurate records as required by local, state, and national programs.
- Verify cash, and complete deposit procedures, in addition to, other records according to the approved School Board cash collection system.
- Responsible for the oversight of the operations and staff and assist with participating in the employee hiring process.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- A standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
- Must pass CASAS Test prior to interview..
- A minimum of one (1) year, within the last three (3) years of food service experience.
- General knowledge of quantity food service, sanitation, and nutrition.
- Prior experience in food production in cooking or baking recommended.
- Computer skills as required for the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Bilingual skills.

Interacts daily with Food & Nutrition Services employees, students, district administrators, and others to ensure the department’s goals are being met in providing nourishing meals to students that support student achievements.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects. Perform necessary average lifting up to 30 pounds.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
