POSITION GOAL
To perform complex and diversified duties in a specialized area requiring the application of advanced office procedures and techniques confidently and professionally. Job responsibilities require the use of various procedures and applications related to departmental and/or School Board standard practices which requires the making of minor decisions and use of judgment.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow general instructions and operational procedures to perform advanced clerical work and assume detailed responsibilities.
- Receive and read incoming mail; screen items which can be handled personally; forward to the supervisor or appropriate staff member together with necessary background material.
- Compile and edit information for special reports concerning the operation of the School System.
- Verify, check, and examine technical and complex surveys and other types of reports for accuracy and compliance with State and School Board standards.
- Maintain control records on the incoming correspondence and action documents and follow up on work in process to ensure timely reply or action.
- Maintain necessary files and perform all clerical work related to the supervisor's program; act as office receptionist, answer telephone, greet, announce, and route visitors.
- Assemble and summarize information from files and documents in the office or other available sources for the supervisor's use on the basis of general instructions as to the nature of information needed.
- Perform independent clerical work of a technical nature requiring the exercise of independent and unreviewed judgment.
- Operate standard office equipment, as required by the job.
- Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
- Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
- Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
- Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
- Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- A standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
- Must have a minimum of five (5) years related experience in the specialized area of the position including word processor and microcomputer experience.
OR
- Two (2) years (60 semester hours) of secretarial or business-related education from an accredited college or university (normally an associate's degree program).
- A minimum of one (1) year of related experience including word processor and microcomputer.
- An extensive knowledge of business practices and School Board policies and office procedures; an excellent command of English grammar; ability to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously.
- Effective verbal, written, and communication skills.
- Advanced organization skills and keen attentiveness to detail.
- Computer skills as required for the position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Vocational or business school Secretarial Science training.
- Bilingual skills.
- The hiring administrator may specify preferred, appropriate additional qualifications as may be related to the job.
SIGNIFICANT CONTACTS-frequency, contact, purpose
Frequently works with parents and students, as necessary; interacts with staff and the general public regarding various inquiries.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
