COORDINATOR, SUICIDE PREVENTION

POSITION GOAL
To establish and coordinate a comprehensive and proactive framework for suicide prevention. This position is responsible for providing school-based staff with guidance on best practices and research-based strategies in the identification of risk factors and warning signs and collaborating with community service providers and school teams to facilitate interventions and supports.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Coordinator, Suicide Prevention shall carry out the essential performance responsibilities listed below.
- Supervise staff as assigned in the performance of job duties.
- Assist the Director with the formation and execution of the District’s Strategic Plan, as well as the Suicide Prevention and Mental Health awareness initiatives.
- Coordinate the collection and analysis of relevant data, including universal screeners, academic risk indicators, and treatment integrity. Assist schools in identifying key indicators and triggers for students who are at risk.
- Lead the short and long-term, data-driven planning, design, delivery, and measurement of Districtwide Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Awareness initiatives.
- Establish the District’s vision for Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Awareness, aligning goals and objectives to the District’s Strategic Plan.
- Develop and maintain a common framework for communication, service delivery, and professional development at all levels of the organization.
- Work collaboratively with District staff to conduct needs assessments, aligning District organizational structures and resources to support Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Awareness.
- Collaborate with individual schools to address and problem-solve issues consistent with the implementation of best practices.
- Coach instructional staff and administrators on the implementation and fidelity of research-based strategies and interventions around Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Awareness.
- Prepare a variety of related reports in manual and electronic formats (media communications, translations, guidelines, recommendations, curriculum components, state, and federal reporting, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, conveying information, securing material, and ensuring program requirements are met in an effective and timely manner.
- Provide consultative services to Mental Health Professionals.
- Act as a liaison with other school programs and community agencies, which provide therapeutic counseling services.
- Present information to District and community groups for the purpose of promoting Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Awareness initiatives.
- Assist schools in developing and sustaining secondary and tertiary interventions to meet the needs of at-risk students.
- Create and monitor the District-wide Suicide Prevention Plan.
- Create, update, and monitor adherence to practices in the Suicide Designee Handbook.
- Manage training and consultation of suicide designees.
- Provide direction, consultation, and training related to the District Suicide Risk Assessment.
- Review and stay current on state statutes related to suicide assessments and reporting mandates.
- Develop and supervise the delivery of professional learning for stakeholders related to Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Awareness, through a variety of efficient and effective delivery methods, utilizing current technology.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- An earned master’s degree in mental health counseling, social work, psychology, counseling, education, public health, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a mental health counseling, social work, or educational and related field.
- Strong leadership and project organizational skills, (planning, implementing, evaluation).
- Effective verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with individuals, teams, and groups, (teachers, parents, administrators, and support staff).
- Computer skills as required for the position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Valid Florida Educational Leadership certification.
- Bilingual skills.
SIGNIFICANT CONTACTS-frequency, contact, purpose
Frequently works with District and school-based administrators, and community mental health professionals to provide support through best practices in complex needs and developing certified Broward County School District professionals.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
