POSITION GOAL
To assure that all financial transactions in the General and Special Revenue Funds are properly interpreted, recorded and analyzed based on cost accounting procedures established by the State of Florida.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Cost Accountant shall carry out the performance responsibilities listed below.
- Review various reports to identify possible problems (e.g., invalid coding) and take corrective action as needed.
- Monitor the use of current reports and processes to determine the need for additional financial tracking and other improvements.
- Prepare cost accounting surveys of schools/departments related to the creation and maintenance of attribution and other cost accounting tables.
- Prepare and update the district chart of accounts based on the statechart of accounts and cost accounting guidelines.
- Prepare financial statements and reports related to cost accounting for the state, the school board, and management.
- Monitor integration of financial, personnel/payroll, and student records database as they relate to cost accounting.
- Provide chart of accounts training and technical assistance to financial personnel throughout the district.
- Perform all related accounting duties based on school/department requests and cost accounting principles.
- Perform and promote all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
- Participate successfully in the training programs offered to increase the individual’s skill and proficiency related to the assignments.
- Review current developments, literature, and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
- Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
- Follow federal and state laws, as well as school board policies.
- Perform other assigned duties/tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- An earned associate’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience and/or training in the field related to the title of the position.
- Computer skills as required for the position.
OR
- An earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience and/or training in the field related to the title of the position.
- Computer skills as required for the position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Preferred degree major in accounting or related field.
- Experience in working with the District and State of Florida cost reporting and Chart of Accounts preferred.
- Bilingual skills preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
