POSITION GOAL

Provide GIS and demographic data support by creating data, maps and reports.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the annual boundary, school choice and redistricting processes by producing professional publication-quality maps and reports. 
  • Perform spatial analysis using demographic data from the District’s student database and GIS data under time constraints with accuracy to be used for recommendations or decision-making. 
  • Create and edit GIS data using ArcGIS for Desktop software. 
  • Prepare professional, publication-quality maps and reports which combine cartography, organizing information, and illustrate highly complex spatial concepts. 
  • Establish and adhere to benchmarks in data-accuracy. 
  • Synthesize demographic data from the District’s student information database with GIS data under time constraints with accuracy to be used for recommendations or decision-making. 
  • Keep abreast of new residential developments and growth trends in Broward County by meeting and coordinating with municipal staff and performing field surveys for assigned administrative area(s). 
  • Coordinate projects for and manage support staff. 
  • Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida. 
  • Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities. 
  • Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities. 
  • Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures. 
  • Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.
 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • An earned bachelor’s degree in urban planning, geography or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of five (5), within the last nine (9) years, of experience and/or training in the field related to the title of the position.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in the current version ArcGIS for Desktop including mapping, geocoding, data editing and management and spatial analysis; proficiency in tabular data management, querying and reporting; advanced proficiency in the current version of Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of population projection methodologies, demography, and residential developments.

  • Bilingual skills

As necessary, communicates with municipal staff and other District departments to produce professional publication-quality maps in support of the annual boundary, school choice and redistricting processes

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
