POSITION GOAL

To provide assistance with coordinating the activities of the Bilingual/ESOL.

 

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Educational Specialist I, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)/Foreign Language shall carry out the performance responsibilities listed below. 

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the bilingual/ESOL/Foreign Language program. 
  • Assist with coordinating the identification, assessment and placement of students for the Bilingual/ESOL program. 
  • Assist with the planning, development and arrangements for operating procedures pertaining to curriculum development. 
  • Assist with coordinating the development of Bilingual/ESOL curriculum guides and performance objectives. 
  • Assist with coordinating the ordering of materials and equipment needed to implement the Bilingual/ESOL Program. 
  • Assist with maintaining close liaison with the international community through personal contacts and Parent Advisory Council meetings. 
  • Work with principals, teachers and District personnel in developing the Bilingual/ESOL Program. 
  • Assist in the coordination of activities with the Core Curriculum Department to provide services for Limited English Proficient (LEP) students. 
  • Assist with developing, implementing and evaluating in-service program for target school staff and project staff. 
  • Assist with compiling and preparing with District staff all reports necessary for federal, state and local agencies. 
  • Assist in coordinating the internal and external evaluation to maintain an effective feed-back monitoring system. 
  • Serve as a consultant on the matters pertinent to Bilingual/ESOL education. 
  • Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida. 
  • Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities. 
  • Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities. 
  • Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures. 
  • Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.
 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • An earned master's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience outside the Broward County School District in bilingual/ESOL education.
  • Must be fluently bilingual.
  • Computer skills are required for the position.
 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • An earned master's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience within the Broward County School District in bilingual/ESOL education.
  • Preferred degree major in elementary or secondary education or related field.
  • Required to hold or be eligible for a valid Florida or Broward Teacher’s Certificate or licensure with ESOL endorsement. Florida Certification in Administration, Supervision, Administration and Supervision, Educational Leadership, School Principal or Professional School Principal preferred.
 

SIGNIFICANT CONTACTS-frequency, contact, purpose

Frequently communicates with Principals, Assistant Principals, Guidance Counselors, school-based ESOL contacts, Core Curriculum Specialists and parents to assist in implementing the Bilingual/ESOL program.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
