POSITION GOAL

Support Broward County JROTC schools in meeting or exceeding the logistic standards required by the Broward County School Board and the sponsoring military service by assisting in designing, planning, developing, implementing, coordinating, evaluating, and monitoring the SLDC program and its curriculum.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Operations and Logistics Specialist, Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) and Student Leadership Development Corps (SLDC) shall carry out the performance responsibilities listed below:

  • Provide logistic and administrative services such as military budget management, curriculum and publication management, and records.
  • Assist the OPS LOG/ SLDC with Broward County School Board Middle School SLDC program.
  • Assist the OPS LOG/ SLDC, with the development, implementation, coordination, evaluation, and monitoring of the SLDC curriculum.
  • Conduct periodic training and supply management inspections to ensure JROTC/SLDC programs are being administered in accordance with law, service regulations and School Board policy.
  • Prepare/review reports submitted by JROTC programs to the Armed Services/School Board. 
  • Assist the Operations Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO), with the planning, operation, and conduct of Broward County JROTC summer leadership programs.
  • Develop and organize curricula in accordance with Armed Service directives to include preparations and distribution of instructional texts, materials, equipment, and schedules.
  • Manage and maintain a Government Purchase Card (GPC).
  • Manage Operations & Maintenance Appropriations (OMA) and Military Personnel, Army (MPA) budget. 
  • Seve as the primary hand-receipt holder for Broward County Schools and 6th Brigade Army JROTC Cadet Command.
  • Organize, supervise, and coordinate a staff of both instructional and administrative personnel.
  • Assist in the conduct of the annual US Army JROTC Unit Inspection Program.
  • Assist in coordinating extracurricular activities of JROTC/SLDC cadets to include parades and ceremonies, competitive drill, and ceremonial participation of Color Guard, drill teams, and honor guards as well as other designated activities.
  • Manage upkeep and maintenance of the JROTC building, warehouse, facilities, and grounds.
  • Coordinate all meals, transportation, and lodging requirements for all extra-curricular activities, including all field trips.
  • Prepare budget requirements and operating cost summaries for submission to appropriate Armed Forces and School Board personnel.
  • Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of the School Board of Broward County, Florida.
  • Participate in the training programs offered to increase the individual skills and proficiency related to the job responsibilities.
  • Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
  • Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor, or designee. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion on an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program Valid Florida.
  • Minimum of twenty-five (25) years of experience and/or training in the field related to the title of the position.
  • Total required experience to include a retired Army noncommissioned officer with twenty (20) years’ active service in the pay grade of E-7, E-8, or E-9 or retired Warrant Officer in the pay grade of W-1 through W-5 plus five (5) years’ experience in a JROTC instructor or administrator position.

       Or

  • An earned associate degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of twenty-three (23) years of experience and/or training in the field related to the title of the position.
  • Total required experience to include a retired Army noncommissioned officer with twenty (20) years’ active service in the pay grade of E-7, E-8, or E-9 or retired Warrant Officer in the pay grade of W-1 through W-5 plus three (3) years’ experience in a JROTC instructor or administrator position.

       And

  • Successful completion of higher-level military noncommissioned officers’ development course required.
  • Demonstrated performance in JROTC course development, logistics operations, and extracurricular activities.
  • Requires knowledge of military office procedures and administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, supervise, and coordinate a staff of both instructional and administrative personnel.
  • Computer skills as required for the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • An earned associate degree from an accredited institution.
  • Bilingual skills. 

SUPERVISES

Assist the Curriculum Specialist, Military Science by providing logistic advisory services to secondary JROTC schools and supervisory services to JROTC and SLDC schools.

SIGNIFICANT CONTACTS-frequency, contact, purpose

Frequently communicates with school administration, school-based instructors, and JROTC/SLDC cadets to assist in implementing JROTC and SLDC programs throughout Broward County Schools. Periodically works with other district personnel to perform other administrative services. Periodically works with local officials and community organizations to collaborate on military-related activities. The desired end result is a well-rounded JROTC and military program in Broward County.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
