ACCOUNTANT III

POSITION GOAL
To perform accounting work and make studies that are varied and somewhat difficult in character but usually involving limited responsibility. To apply standard procedures and requirements to routine transactions in a competent manner and to raise questions about unusual or questionable items. To assign work to bookkeepers, clerks, and other employees engaged in accounting functions.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Examine a variety of accounting documents to verify accuracy of computations.
- Ascertain that all transactions are properly supported and are in accordance with pertinent policies and procedures.
- Prepare working papers, schedules, exhibits, and summaries.
- Classify and record transactions according to acceptable accounting standards.
- Assure the adequacy of the accounting system as the basis for reporting to management.
- Prepare district indirect cost report.
- Prepare Cash and Banks Reconciliation.
- Analyze and control General Fixed Assets Groups of accounts.
- Analyze and control Long Term Debt Group of Accounts.
- Review and recommend changes in office and accounting procedures.
- Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
- Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
- Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
- Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
- Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- An earned bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of two (2) years experience and/or training in a field related to the title of the position.
- Experience must be in budget, accounting or management audits.
- Computer skills as required for the position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Degree majors include accounting or related field.
- Bilingual skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
