POSITION GOAL
To maintain Broward County School Board grounds maintenance equipment in a safe and satisfactory operating condition.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
- Minimum of seven (7) years professionally paid experience as a mechanic
- Must provide own hand tools normally required in the automotive repair trade.
- Must provide own hand tools of the trade.
- Must have a Florida Driver's License with endorsements compatible with the assigned duties of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
- Willing to obtain certification in motor vehicle inspection (when applicable).
- This position will include pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
- Computer skills as required for the position
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
The Foreman, Grounds Equipment Mechanic shall carry out the performance responsibilities listed below.
• Initiate, receive, and review work orders requiring repairs and preventive maintenance to tractor mowers, hand and reel mowers, spraying machines, chain saws, bulldozers, fork lifts, graders, emergency generators, and other School Board grounds maintenance equipment.
• Determine the requirements in labor and materials and estimate cost involved. • Verify that parts and materials are ordered and available at the time the repairs are scheduled.
• Assign to and monitor duties/responsibilities of mechanics, servicepersons, fuel attendants, and other personnel assigned to the service area.
• Review quality and completeness of work accomplished by subordinate personnel. • Perform duties of subordinate personnel, as necessary.
• Determine most advantageous use of space available and arrange for placement of machines, equipment, tools, supplies, and work areas.
• Contact personnel in other Vehicle Maintenance departments to coordinate sequence of repair work on equipment.
• Enter appropriate data into and otherwise utilize the computer terminal in accordance with Comprehensive, On-Line Maintenance, Purchasing, and Stores System (COMPASS) procedures.
• Accumulate and retain necessary data and prepare required reports.
• Operate School Board owned vehicle in a safe manner and assume responsibility for all supplies and equipment on the vehicle.
• Complete all projects in a competent manner and ensure proper recording of time and materials.
• Perform all duties which may require extensive physical effort such as climbing, lifting, pulling, etc.
• Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
• Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
• Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
• Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures. • Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
