POSITION GOAL
To coordinate, instruct, and oversee the work of the air conditioning and refrigeration mechanics, water treatment personnel and other assigned trades employees. To perform skilled work in the maintenance and repair of air conditioning ranging in size from one (1) to eight hundred (800) tons, commercial refrigeration and freezers, water coolers and control systems in a responsible and accurate manner.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Leadman, HVAC shall carry out the essential performance responsibilities listed below.
- Coordinate, construct, and oversee the work of air conditioning and refrigeration mechanics and other assigned trades employees.
- Work from a job order that will, in general, outline the malfunction. Material will be determined and if not on vehicle, order from stockroom. Complete repairs as expeditiously as possible.
- Receive and complete emergency calls dispatched over the radio.
- Read blueprints, technical data and sketches; prepare estimates of materials from such information.
- Assume responsibility and instruct other mechanics in the proper procedures to accomplish repairs.
- Follow both written and oral instructions.
- Work well with others. • Participate, successfully, in the training programs offered to increase the individual's skill and proficiency related to the assignments.
- Complete all projects in a journeyman manner and ensure proper recording of time and materials.
- Operate School Board owned vehicle in a safe manner and assume responsibility for all supplies and equipment on the vehicle.
- Perform all duties which require extensive physical effort such as climbing, lifting over 60 pounds, pulling, etc.
- Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
- Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
- Perform other duties required by the director/ supervisor/manager/foreman.
- Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
- Seven (7) years of recent experience in heating, ventilating, and air conditioning and one of the following:
- Satisfactory completion of The State of Florida Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic Apprenticeship Program (Credit is granted for time served as an apprentice. OR
- Broward County Jouneyman Certificateof Compentency in Air Conditioning and Refrigation. OR
- Must pass tests appropriate to certify and demonstrate competency in the jobComputer skills as required for the position.
- Must provide own hand tools. Demonstrated knowledge of electrical and air conditioning circuits. Demonstrated knowledge of all phases of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration repair to include proper procedure of the trade.
- Must have a proper Florida commercial driver's license with endorsements compatible with the assigned duties of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
This position will include pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
