POSITION GOAL
To coordinate, instruct, and oversee the work of assigned utility serviceperson and other trades employees. To perform skilled work such as install, erect, assemble, repair, maintain, service, and remove materials involved with general maintenance projects, including the use of small power and hand tools.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Leadman, Utility Service/Electromechanical shall carry out the essential performance responsibilities listed below.
Coordinate, instruct, and oversee the work of assigned utility serviceperson and other assigned trades employees in the performance of their responsibilities.
Work as an individual or as part of the crew; receive daily work assignments to
- Erect and repair fences/gates and perform general maintenance repairs; lay out fence lines, dig holes, set posts, mix concrete, attach rails or tension wires, stretch wires, and assemble gates.
- Repair, assemble, service, and install various safety and school-based equipment.
- Be licensed to install, test, and service fire extinguishers.
- Install, repair or replace equipment similar to the following: cafeteria, bathroom dispensing machines, mirrors, signs, furniture, gym seating, tables, chairs, and classroom furniture.
- Relocate cabinets, shelves, desks, counters, tables, and chairs.
- Service, inspect, and report on the equipment involved in the power trains electromechanical equipment as follows:
- Inspect, tighten, and/or replace belts on air handlers, fans, etc.
- Inspect and add appropriate oil or grease to bearings on motors, shafts, gearboxes on air handlers, fans, etc.
- Inspect electrical systems and connections.
- Report items which require the attention of journeyman.
- Service flooring systems by installing, repairing, and altering carpets, tile, and other related floor materials:
- Evaluate existing flooring conditions and estimate material and labor.
- Effect proper installation of various flooring materials including layout, cutting, and installing.
- Use various glues, tapes, staples, and tools of the trade.
- Trim existing wood doors.
- Prepare estimates of the materials needed, requisition same, and account for the materials used.
- Follow both written and oral instructions.
- Work well with others.
- participate, successfully in the training programs offered to increase the individual's skill and proficiency related to the assignments
- Operate School Board owned vehicle in a safe manner and assume responsibility for all supplies and equipment on the vehicle.
- Complete all projects in a journeyman manner and ensure proper recording of time and materials.
- Perform all duties which extensive physical effort such as climbing, lifting over 60 pounds, pulling, etc.
- Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
- Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the director/ supervisor/manager/foreman.
- Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
- Seven (7) years of recent experience in erecting and repairing fences, or installing and repairing carpets and all types of flooring materials, or repairing, assembling, servicing, and installing various safety and school-based equipment, or making repairs to power trains and supply systems of electromechanical equipment.
- Computer skills as required for the position.
- Must provide own hand tools. Demonstrated knowledge of all phases of fence erection and repairs, or installation and repair of carpets and other types of flooring materials, or repair, assembling, service, and installation of various safety and school-based equipment, or power trains and supply systems of electromechanical equipment.
- Must pass tests appropriate to certify and demonstrate competency in the job.
- Must have a proper Florida commercial driver's license with endorsements compatible with the assigned duties of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
- Computer skills as required for the position.
- This position will include pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
