PEST CONTROL APPLICATOR

POSITION GOAL
To perform skilled work in applying chemicals to maintain various types of grass/turf in good condition. To prepare to obtain pest material use license.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Pest Control Applicator shall carry out the essential performance responsibilities listed below.
- Load and unload from trucks fertilizers, chemicals, tractors and spreading equipment, machines, materials and other items used in the care and maintenance of lawns and athletic fields in the Broward County School District.
- Under direction of the Certified Pest Control Operator, mix proper amounts of fertilizers and weed and pest control materials and fill spreaders; set controls to dispense materials as to label directions.
- Operate mobile, push and hand spreaders to dispense wet or dry control materials with labeled amounts.
- Apply control materials along fence lines and around bike racks, baseball backstops, etc. to control pests.
- Inspect, clean, lubricate and make minor repairs to equipment and maintain proper oil levels in motorized equipment.
- Record usage of all materials dispensed.
- Dispose of empty containers and unusable chemicals in accordance with labeled methods.
- Inform supervisor of needed supplies.
- Participate, successfully, in the training programs offered to increase the individual's skill and proficiency related to the assignments.
- Operate School Board owned vehicle in a safe manner and assume responsibility for all supplies and equipment on the vehicle.
- Complete all projects in a competent workmanlike manner and ensure proper recording of time and materials.
- Perform all duties which require extensive physical effort such as climbing, lifting of over 25 up to 60 pounds, pulling, etc.
- Review current developments, literature, and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
- Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor, manager, director or designee.
- Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program
- Experience in handling and applying various grounds care chemicals
- Willing to work Saturdays, Sundays and holidays as regular workdays.
- Must have ability to assume responsibility and complete tasks without assistance.
- Must have a proper Florida commercial driver's license with endorsements compatible with the assigned duties of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
- Computer skills as required for the position.
- This position will include pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Certified Pest Control Operator license (CPCO) preferred.
- Bilingual skills preferred.
