SHEET METAL MECHANIC

POSITION GOAL
To perform flanging, punching, shearing, and soldering operations in the fabrication of sheet metal products using various hand tools and sheet metal tools and machinery. The duties require the construction and installation of complicated units and the performance of tasks in an economical and efficient manner.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
- Six (6) years of recent sheet metal experience (apprenticeship background preferred) in performing skilled tasks in the fabrication, installation, repair and maintenance of sheet metal facilities and related work as required.
- Broward County Certificate of Competency certification as a sheet metal mechanic. If not certified at the time of employment application, must pass Broward County Central Examining Board's Sheet Metal Mechanic Exam prior to being placed on permanent status within six (6) months.
- Valid current State of Florida or Broward County Certificate of Competency as sheet metal technician.
- Good knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment (including spot welders and tools of the trade);
- Skill in using and caring for tools, equipment, and materials of the sheet metal trade.
- Ability to estimate sheet metal time and material needs.
- Ability to work from oral and written instructions, including diagrams and blueprints.
- Ability to accurately measure and figure angles.
- Ability to prefabricate metal objects.
- Good physical condition.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Must provide own hand tools.
- Must have the ability to assume responsibility and effect repairs without assistance.
- Willing to answer emergency calls at all hours, including off hours.
- Must have a proper Florida commercial driver's license with endorsements compatible with the assigned duties of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
- This position will include pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
- Computer skills as required for the position.
