PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: A standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program. High school chemistry preferred 

 

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of recent experience in custodial maintenance and repair work or related work experience 

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS Thorough knowledge of water treatment pumps, controllers and parts. Within 120 working days from the date of appointment, an individual newly appointed to the job must successfully complete the training program. Must be able to read blueprints, technical data and sketches. Must provide own hand tools. Must have a valid Florida driver license. This position will include pre-employment drug and alcohol testing. Bilingual skills preferred. Computer skills as required for the position. REPORTS TO: Supervisor, Manager, Director or designee 

 

POSITION GOAL: To maintain the boilers (waterside), cooling towers, heating and cooling water system, and the condenser water systems. To perform back-up testing, manual feed of chemicals, required blow down operations, calibrate controllers, adjust bleed flow rates, clean probes, lay-up boilers, clean and flush closed water Treatment Serviceperson I (cont.) SBBC: NN-063 loops. To repair, renew or provide float valves, chemical feed pumps, controllers, probes, foot valves and boiler feed equipment. 

 

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Water Treatment Serviceperson I shall:

  1. Repair or replace cooling tower chemical pumps, controllers, feed lines, supply tanks and related equipment. 
  2. Run spot check water analysis on cooling and heating water and adjust chemical input rate by injecting chemicals to maintain a relative balance.
  3. Check inventory of chemicals at the sites which have cooling towers and boilers.
  4. Cover the routes for analysis and chemical balance each month, with the contractor or by himself. (usually takes four days).
  5. Inspect, each quarter, over 225 closed loop systems, with the water treatment technician supplied by the vendor in possession of the water treatment contract.
  6. Prepare estimates of the materials needed, requisition same, and account for the materials used.
  7. Follow both written and oral instructions.
  8. Work well with others.
  9. Assume responsibility and instruct others in the proper use of chemicals supplied for boilers and air conditioning cooling towers.
  10. Inform supervisor of needed supplies.
  11. Participate, successfully, in the training programs offered to increase the individual's skill and proficiency related to the assignments.
  12. Operate School Board owned vehicles in a safe manner and assume responsibility for all supplies and equipment on the vehicle.
  13. Complete all projects in a competent workmanlike manner and ensure proper recording of time and materials.
  14. Perform all duties which require extensive physical effort such as climbing, lifting of over 25 up to 60 pounds, pulling, etc.
  15. Review current developments, literature, and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
  16. Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor, manager, director or designee.
  18. Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects. 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the district's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.

 

FLSA OVERTIME CATEGORY: Job is exempt/not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. 

 

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy.
