POSITION GOAL
To lead, plan, implement and control artificial intelligence initiatives across the district. This role will oversee the efforts to build innovative and scalable Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions across the district.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Director, Artificial Intelligence shall carry out the essential performance responsibilities listed below:
- Direct the development of long- and short-term strategic and operational goals for the district’s artificial intelligence initiatives.
- Coordinate with district divisions and departments to ensure that artificial intelligence functions are unified, efficient and align with districtwide strategic goals.
- Oversee AI research and development efforts, staying current with emerging trends and technologies.
- Work closely with stakeholders across departments to identify opportunities for AI-driven improvements.
- Lead and mentor cross-functional teams working on AI and machine learning projects.
- Supervise the development and deployment of AI models, ensuring performance, scalability, and ethical use.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the district’s AI strategy adhering to best practices in AI governance, privacy, and ethical use.
- Serve on District committees as assigned.
- Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
- Participate, successfully, in the training programs offered to increase the individual’s skill and proficiency related to assignments.
- Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
- Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
- Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• An earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• A minimum of five (5) years’ experience within the last eight (8) years and/or training in the field related to the title of the position
OR
• An earned associate degree from an accredited institution.
• A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in the field related to the title of the position with at least four (4) years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
AND
• Technical experience related to artificial intelligence and machine learning including Python, SQL/NoSQL, and/or other skills related to AI/ML
• Knowledge of AI ethics, model interpretability, and responsible AI practices
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- At least three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
- In-depth knowledge of data engineering practices.
- Experience in working with enterprise-scale data models
- Demonstrated ability to lead the design, implementation, and management of large-scale artificial intelligence initiatives.
- Experience in tuning AI models and applying AI solutions such as chatbots, automated agents, and other agentic AI processes.
- Experience working in the K-12 Education sector.
- Bilingual skills.

Frequently interacts and/or meets with District and School-based staff as well as the IS Division staff
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
