POSITION GOAL

Assist the Executive Director in implementing the Food & Nutrition Services Program and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Program by providing technical assistance and guidance to area supervisors and managers to ensure that meals served to students meet state and federal regulations and are prepared with high-quality foods obtained at cost-effective prices.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Coordinator, Food & Nutrition Services shall carry out the essential performance responsibilities listed below:

  • Supervise staff as assigned in the performance of job duties.
  • Establish goals for Food & Nutrition Services operation based on identified needs and monitor progress toward these goals.
  • Evaluate food products and equipment in terms of acceptability for use in school food service; develop and revise the nutritional analysis of foods and menus for WEB site and district schools to meet special dietary needs.
  • Plan district-wide menus considering nutrition requirements, student food preferences, USDA commodities, and financial resources. Calculate food quantities to purchase for the district and develop guidelines for food service managers to order food for their school site.
  • Meet with student advisory councils to elicit student input into menu planning and new food selection.
  • Evaluate products, services, and pricing available through multiple food vendors across the U.S; develop, negotiate, and monitor food contract arrangements for an annual district-wide food purchasing budget to ensure compliance with federal procurement regulations, state board rules, and school board policies.
  • Prepare, assist, and coordinate the annual food budget. 
  • Ensure the most effective utilization of the United States Department of Agriculture budget government commodity food credit in the Broward School District. Responsible for ordering, warehousing, allocating, confer requests, and understanding all distributing, and audit compliance of commodity food.
  • Responsible for the Monthly and Annual Community Reconciliation report.
  • Develop standards and implement food preparation and serving techniques and procedures and oversee product safety issues.
  • Serve as technical advisor to supervisors, managers, and contractual partners for all areas of USDA Nutrient compliance food production service, and analysis of meal patterns, and management concerns/questions/emergencies.
  • Develop and revise, as needed, standards of identity for food products, equipment and supplies.
  • Supervise and monitor the National School Lunch, Breakfast, and After School Snack Program, After School Supper Program throughout the District to ensure that menus, food procurement, and USDA commodities utilized comply with federal/state regulations and school board policies.
  • Coordinate and plan the operation of the Summer Food Service Program district-wide for schools, parks, and municipalities.
  • Designee for the District ensuring availability of adequate hurricane shelter food supplies.
  • Develop and refine integration of computer technology to automate the ordering process, monitor food costs to budget, evaluate vendor performance, etc.; continue to review new programs to upgrade system capability.
  • Ensure all department priorities and projects assist in achieving the District’s Strategic Plan.
  • Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of the School Board of Broward County
  • Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
  • Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to the job responsibilities.
  • Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor, or designee. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • An earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience and/or training in the field related to the title of the position.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills as required for the position. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • An earned master’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in an institutional environment, i.e., school, nursing home, hospital.
  • Registered Dietitian.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • Bilingual skills. 

SIGNIFICANT CONTACTS-frequency, contact, purpose

Works with school staff, district staff, United States Department of Agriculture (U.S.D.A.) Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) in the administration, supervision, and operation of a cost-effective food service program for individual schools and the District.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force as frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
